Meet Melissa Steffey! At Jeffrey Costa Select Realty, we are so lucky to have Melissa as part of our team. She’s a multimillion dollar producer who makes it her mission to find your dream home. In fact, her mantra is “turn your dreams into an address”. It’s what drives her, every day.
We sat down with Melissa to help you learn more about her approach to being a realtor.
Q: What are your favorite parts of being a realtor? How did you know that this was the career for you?
There’s nothing quite like gaining a customer’s trust – and as a result, seeing their satisfaction at the end of your journey together. The feeling of helping one of my clients turn their dreams into an address gives me a certain glow, all day long! It’s something that I love to show my children. I want them to see that hard work pays off and the sky’s the limit in this business.
I also love my job because it’s never boring. Every day is different, so it doesn’t get stale. I get to meet so many interesting people and families, and help guide them as they make one of the biggest decisions of their lives. It really does bring me so much joy.
I knew that this was the career for me when I saw that I could do something that interests me on a flexible schedule, all while meeting my need to financially contribute to my family.
Q: What made you decide to join Jeffrey Costa Select Realty?
I decided to join Jeffrey Costa Select Realty because I wanted to be part of something that was just beginning to take flight. I believe this company has limitless potential, and I want to be a part of the team that takes it to new heights every day.
To me, the Costa name signifies integrity. I knew that Costa’s exemplary standards would resonate with my clients. I want to be able to give my clients large company capabilities, with personal relationships and attention to detail.
Q: Jeffrey Costa Select Realty is dedicated to providing top-tier service to our clients. What do you bring to the team?
I bring eight years of dedication and service to the real estate business. I pride myself on being honest. I refuse to sugar coat things with my clients and with other agents.
I know from experience the value of upfront honesty when you’re searching for a home. One of the reasons I became a realtor was due to two different agents being dishonest with my husband and I on two separate occasions when we made offers on homes. I vowed to never do the same to one of my clients. When you work with me, you can rest assured that you’re entering a partnership built on integrity.
As a real estate agent, I never give up until I know within my heart of hearts that I have exhausted all options available to make your dreams come to.
Q: What areas have you lived in around Pittsburgh? What are the things you love most about our region?
I grew up in the South Hills. After college, I moved to Monroeville, then lived in Port Vue for five years. Finally, I settled in Jefferson Hills.
I love that there are parts of the South Hills that you can get lost in when you need some down time. My family loves spending time biking on the Montour Trail, visiting Round Hill Farm and exploring along Pete’s Creek and the Yough river.
We also love the convenience of South Hills Village, the Waterfront and Downtown Pittsburgh.
Q: Your mantra is “Turning your dreams into an address.” What does that mean to you?
Turn Your Dreams Into an Address means taking something intangible, like a thought or dream, and turning it into something tangible and real. It means making your dreams come true! This has become the most important thing to me in my career. There’s nothing quite like the look on one of my client’s faces when they finally get the keys to their dream home.
Q: What has been your biggest professional accomplishment as a real estate agent?
So far, my biggest professional accomplishment as a real estate agency was to have the opportunity to mentor new agents who were just starting out in the business. When I began my career eight years ago, there were no surefire training programs out there to assist new agents. I was very fortunate to have supportive, experienced agents in my office that took me under their wings and helped me through my first transactions.
Afterward, I promised myself that I would pay the kindness I was shown forward and do the same for new agents that were just coming on board. This business isn’t for everyone. It can chew you up and spit you out. I wanted to set a good example for agents: be honest, be courteous, be efficient and always communicate (whether it’s good or bad news). These standards should be part of an agent’s professional capabilities – whether they are dealing with clients or other agents.
In a two-year period, I mentored seven new agents, and I’m very proud to say that six of them are still working in real estate and doing very well. I’m glad they hung in there. I knew from the beginning that they had what it takes to not only be a successful real estate agent, but an agent clients would work with again in the future. That is my most precious accomplishment!
Q: What else should we need to know about you?
I’m a full-time agent – this is my career, and it’s focused around ethics, honesty, and expertise. I’m a member of the National Association of REALTORS®, REALTORS® Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh, and Pennsylvania Association of Realtors®.
