South Park Neighborhood

South Park is a township 12 miles south of Pittsburgh in the southern part of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. The bigger portion of the town hosts a park bearing the same name. Originally founded as Snowden Township in 1845, Allegheny County created a regional park within the township and named it South Park. The park’s huge success led to the town being renamed in a 1966 referendum.

South Park’s topography is covered with hills, due to streams in the area like Lick Run, Piney Fork Run, and creeks such as the popular Peters Creek. South Park has a total area of 9.2 square miles.

As of the 2010 census, the population was 13,416 people.

Commercial and Entertainment

Other than their famous park, South Park hosts a number of businesses, retail chains, distributors, auto repair shops and more. Blue Moon Salon & Day Spa, Henne Jewelers, Home & Office Consignment Gallery, T & M Hardware, and Daniel’s Discount Appliances are just some of the places in the immediate vicinity.  The nearby South Hills Village contains over 130 shops at your disposal, and several professional businesses. South Park’s has several fresh markets and grocery stores. Places like Trax Farms, Giant Eagle, and Ruthfred Market are great places to purchase all of your grocery needs.

Hopefully you will find your favorite bites in South Park at its restaurants and in nearby places. The best restaurants are BnD’z Burgerz & Dogz, Bistro 19, Dorido’s Restaurant, Patsy’s Place, and much more.

You will not run out of entertainment options in South Park. From magicians to bands to painting and even the park itself, the choice is yours to make. The Fundaze Back Bar, The South Park Clubhouse, Hot Shot South Park Saloon, and J & J’s Tavern are some of the popular bars in the area.

You can catch a concert at the South Park Amphitheater, or a play at the South Park Theater. There is an off-road BMX track simply entitled South Park BMX, and even a haunted attraction at the Hundred Acre Manor Haunted House. There is plenty South Park has to offer it’s residents.

South Park Township boasts a library of over 40,000 items in the lower level of their municipal building. Its school district is known as The South Park School District (SD). South Park has an elementary, middle and high school in its district. They are South Park Elementary School, South Park Middle School and South Park High School. South Park also has two private elementary schools: Cornerstone Christian Preparatory Academy and St Joan of Arc School. Based on the 2015-2016 annual financial reports, South Park SD had an elementary tuition rate of $9,391.85, and $10,403.19 for secondary tuition.

Out of 500 different school districts in Pennsylvania for 2017, South Park School District ranks 25th in “Safest School Districts in Pennsylvania,” 56th in “Best Places to Teach in Pennsylvania,” and 89th in “Best School Districts in Pennsylvania.”

The median South Park household income is $65,433, and that of a family is $76,108. The median listing price of homes in South Park is $209,900 while the list price per square foot is $125. Latest listing prices in Bethel Park had a median price of $217,400 from a range of $69,900 to $364,900. South Park’s sees a higher foreclosure value of 2.6 homes per 10,000, compared to the national average of 1.6.
