Jefferson Hills is a residential borough located along the southern border of Allegheny County. Before January 22nd, 1838, the present borough was known as the Township of Mifflin. The current name was derived from Thomas Jefferson.
Jefferson Hills occupies 16.8 square miles with 0.17 square miles occupied by water. It is 1,300 feet above sea level. Jefferson Hill’s topography is filled with woods and rolling hills. It is bordered by Monongahela River to the southeast. There are three streams that flow through the borough: Beam Run, Peters Creek, and Lewis Run. Each of these streams drain into the Monongahela River. Buildings in the borough are separated by valleys and open tracts.
The 2016 census indicated 11,206 people lived in the borough, with a total of 4,562 households.

60.6% of Jefferson Hill’s residents identify themselves as religious. The majority of those are Catholic, consisting of 37.7% of those practicing religion.There are a number of churches for worship . Jefferson Hills Bible Church, Jefferson United Presbyterian Church, Saint Thomas A. Beckett Roman Catholic Church Jefferson United Methodist Church, and Abiding Grace Church are just a few available to residents and visitors.
The school district is the West Jefferson Hills School District and accommodates local students and students from neighboring townships. It consists of five schools: Jefferson Elementary School, Gill Hall Elementary School, McClellan Elementary, Pleasant Hills Middle School, and Thomas Jefferson High School. The tuition rate for high school is $14, 252.66, and $10,752.49 for elementary school.
The median household income is $79,548 while the median listing price is $126 per square foot. Compared to the Pittsburgh Metro of $114, Jefferson Hills has a higher listing price value.
